Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a virtual ceremony to lay the foundation stone for SJVN’s 200 MW solar power project located at Khavda Solar Park in Kachchh, Gujarat, as part of GUVNL Phase XVII.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Chandrakant Patil, Shantanu Thakur, Nimuben Bambhaniya, along with senior officials from SJVN and SGEL. This project, which is being developed by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation (GSECL), is set to provide power to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL) for a duration of 25 years at a rate of Rs 2.88 per unit.
With a projected investment of Rs 866.8 crore, the initiative is anticipated to produce 504.92 million units in its inaugural year and a total of 11,620 million units over the span of 25 years, thereby contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions by approximately 5.69 lakh tonnes.
The project is scheduled to be commissioned by 31 December 2026, and it aims to support India’s renewable energy goal of achieving 500 GW by 2030 and reaching Net Zero by 2070, while also generating employment and making use of Kachchh’s arid land for the generation of clean energy.
