On August 11, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 184 newly constructed Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament located at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in New Delhi. The flats are distributed across four towers ā Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly, with each unit providing approximately 5,000 sq. ft. of carpet area suitable for both living and official activities.
The complex features office spaces, staff quarters, and a community centre. Constructed using advanced monolithic concrete and aluminium shuttering, these earthquake-resistant buildings are also designed to be accessible for individuals with disabilities.
PM Modi pointed out that since 2014, over 350 residences for MPs have been built to alleviate the housing shortage, mentioning that the previous high rental expenses for Ministries had cost nearly Rs 1,500 crore annually.
He stressed that the new accommodations would enable MPs to concentrate on governance without the burden of housing concerns. This initiative aims to deliver modern, durable, and inclusive facilities, representing a significant enhancement to the housing infrastructure for parliamentarians.
