PCMC issues 5,000 property attachment notices for tax

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has recovered Rs645 crore this fiscal, the highest recovery recorded for the tax department.

The civic body’s tax department has issued 5,000 new property attachment notices to recover its tax dues worth Rs350 crore.

Earlier, the department had issued around 31,000 such notices and initiated action against over 3,000 property owners.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has recovered Rs645 crore this fiscal, the highest recovery recorded for the tax department. Last fiscal, the tax department recovered Rs632 crore. The department has set a target of Rs 1,000 crore this year.

PCMC tax department head Nilesh Deshmukh told, “So far, nearly 3.60 lakh property owners have paid the entire tax, while around 2.5 lakh have partial or full tax arrears.”

He said, “We have intensified the collection drive. The names of the property owners, whose basic tax arrears for more than four years is more than Rs 1 lakh, will be published on various social media platforms, including newspapers from Monday.”

Civic chief Shekhar Singh said, “The department has intensified the recovery drive and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy.”
