he two villas which are being used as the CM’s camp office and residence, came under the tax orbit for the first time after the completion of its construction about two years ago.

Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s family paid 17 lakh as house tax for the CM’s camp office and residence buildings in Tadepalle from their personal account.

Sources said the chief minister asked personal aides to clear tax dues from the family’s personal income without routing them to the treasury. Since the property is owned by chief minister’s wife Bharati Reddy, the chief minister decided to pay taxes from his own pocket.

The CM’s family paid the taxes through cheque on Friday. The two villas which are being used as the CM’s camp office and residence, came under the tax orbit for the first time after the completion of its construction about two years ago. Both villas were taxed under old tax regime based on Annual Rental Value (ARV) as the municipal administration department is yet to finalise tax structure under new tax regime based on Capital Value (CV).

The municipal authorities of Mangalagiri-Tadepalle Municipal Corporation handed over tax demand notice to officials in the CM bungalow on Thursday following which Jagan asked the personal staff to pay taxes from personal income.

While one of the two villas is being used as the camp office, the other is used as residence. The camp office building was categorized as commercial structure and levied an annual tax of 4.41 lakh and residential plot was taxed at 19,752.

“The property located 12-353/2/2 PARC VILLE47 is spread over 1750 sq.metres is owned by YS Bharati Reddy. This building was categorized as non-residential and hence the ARV was calculated at 13,64,131. We have fixed the half-yearly tax as 2,20,990 (annual tax-441980),” confirmed a senior official of the municipal corporation who handed over the tax demand.

With arrears of the past two years, the notice was issued for 8,83,960.

However, the CM asked the personal staff to pay advance tax for the current year along with the dues of last two years taking the total tax on camp office to 13,85,196. However, the officials raised a late fee of 2,93,709 on the camp office which made the total tax 16,19,649.

Similarly, the half year tax on the residential structure (spread over 300metres) was calculated as 9,876 (annual tax-19752). With arrears and late fees, the CM family paid 70,740 towards the tax for the residence.
