A recycling plant to treat construction and demolition (C&D) waste became operational in Noida on Monday. Spread over 5 acres in Sector 80, the plant will attain its maximum processing capacity — 300 tonnes of rubble — in the next few days, officials of the Noida Authority said.
The authority has agreed to pay a total of Rs 495 for each tonne of processed waste to Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited, the agency that has set up the plant. While Rs 350 will be paid as transportation cost, Rs 145 per tonne will be paid as processing fees to the agency.
Those generating construction debris in bulks will also be able to approach the agency. “Private waste generators will have to pay Rs 148.50 per tonne as processing charges,” said Avinash Tripathi, OSD, Noida Authority.
During transportation, individuals will have to abide by the construction and waste management rules. A penalty of up to Rs 5,000 can be imposed on bulk generators for the first violation, while individuals may have to pay Rs 1,000.
The recycling plant can deal with debris like brick-and-mortar, concrete, soil, steel, wood and plastic. The recycled waste can be used in road-making, non-structural landscaping and for manufacturing interlocking tiles, paver blocks, footpath or pavements.
The authority will earmark 20 locations where the waste will be collected before being transported to the site. “The locations will be used to keep dump of our in-house projects and that of residential allottees,” added Tripathi.
