NOC from us is must for buildings near airport: HAL

A meeting of HAL’s aerodrome committee, aerodrome emergency committee and airfield environment management committee was recently held with the district administration.

State-owned aerospace and defence company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has sought district administration’s intervention to ensure that all highrise projects planned near the airport must seek a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the company.

A meeting of HAL’s aerodrome committee, aerodrome emergency committee and airfield environment management committee was recently held with the district administration.

During the meeting, HAL officials reminded that since commercial flights operate from HAL airport at Ozar, all highrise projects coming up near the airport must get prior approval from the local airport authorities as instructed by Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The airport runway is 3.5-km-long, starting from Ozar and ends at Janori village. “We had a meeting with the district administration on safety issues. We are in discussion with them to make HAL’s NOC mandatory for construction of highrise buildings, but nothing has been finalised yet,” an official from HAL said.

“Safety guidelines for airports have been laid down by the AAI. It was just a primary discussion with the district administration. The height limit and areas where HAL’s NOC will be required is yet to be decided,” the official said.

The runway is in the east and west direction. “There are Janori and Mohadi villages on the east side of the airport that is a hilly area. Hence, there is not much issue on this side,” the official said.

“There is HAL township and Pimpalgaon area in the west direction of the runway. The issue of NOC will be only for highrise constructions on this side of the runway. Nashik city will not be affected as it is towards south of the runway,” he added.

The HAL will now prepare a proposal as per the civic aviation guidelines that will include the areas where the HAL’s NOC will be needed for highrise constructions.

Currently, TruJet and Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India, are operating flights from Nashik airport. Alliance Air is operating on the Hyderabad-Nashik and Nashik-Ahmedabad sectors, while TruJet is operating on Nashik-Ahmedabad route.
