The municipal corporation has directed all utilities to complete their works by May 8 as no digging of roads would be allowed after that.
The public works department of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) recently met officials from utilities such as Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited, Jio, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited and Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation and instructed them to carry out their works at the earliest.
The officials told them that action will be taken against them if anyone digs up roads after May 9. The NMC had initially set a deadline of April 30 but the civic administration has now extended it by a week.
Civic officials said that they will start road repair works immediately after May 9, and complete it before the monsoon begins. The directions came after several residents in the city complained about the digging of roads by the MNGL and smart city corporation in most parts of the city, and said that it severely inconvenienced them. They added that the situation would become dangerous if the roads are not repaired before monsoon begins.
These agencies or contractors are expected to take permission officially from the public works department and pay the road damage. But in most cases, they directly dig trenches on the roads without taking permission, a civic official said.
