National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to construct a flyover and an underpass at the 200-Feet Bypass crossing, one of the most congested in the city.
Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will float tenders for the project in Jan next year. It will take about one-and-a-half year to complete the project once the construction starts. NHAI will submit a detailed project report (DPR) within the next two months.
“This initiative aims to ease traffic for approximately 1.25 lakh travellers who travel through this area daily. As the number of vehicles at this crossing is increasing rapidly, the travelling time to cross the signals at these crossings is also increasing considerably. These projects may reduce the time to a great extent,” said Ajay Arya of NHAI.
Officials said the projects will have a significant effect on city traffic and also on the movement of Delhi-Ajmer traffic. The proposed flyover will cater to traffic coming from the Ajmer side and taking a left turn at this crossing towards Delhi. At present, there is a flyover for traffic in the opposite direction – coming from the Delhi side and taking a right at this crossing towards Ajmer. The new flyover – around 1.6-km long – will run parallel to the existing one.
The underpass will cater to traffic travelling between Vaishali Nagar and Mansarovar in both directions.
“It means traffic between the Sodala side and Ajmer side in both directions will have to go through this crossing. The signal may stop for a while if police allow traffic coming from Vaishali Nagar side through the service road to take a right towards Ajmer,” said an NHAI official.
