NHAI revises Aroor-Edappally highway plan to accommodate Metro viaduct

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) directed DPR consultant of the proposed Aroor-Edappally elevated highway of NH 66 to modify the DPR. Design in the DPR is not practical at Palarivattom Junction, where the proposed Metro viaduct passes through.

Hibi Eden, MP, informed that DPR consultant was directed to submit revised DPR within a month. Viaduct of Metro’s proposed Pink Line, connecting JLN Stadium to Kakkanad, will have to pass over Palarivattom flyover of NH 66.

NHAI asked the consultant to provide facility for Metro viaduct crossover in the junction. When the DPR proposes building an elevated highway alongside current flyovers at Kundannoor and Vyttila junctions, further analysis is required by the consultant to develop an enhanced design for the elevated structure specifically for Palarivattom bypass intersection.

NHAI aims to implement Edappally-Aroor project as an extension of Aroor-Thuravoor elevated highway.According to the report submitted by Highway Engineering Consultants Ltd, the DPR consultant, the project is expected to cost Rs 3,600 crore. Eden also pointed out that completing Edappally-Aroor stretch along with the completion of ongoing NH 66 widening works is essential.
