The application method of Neocoat UTM
Microtopping demands special knowledge and craftsmanship. There are numerous technical aspects to be taken into consideration that our craftspeople are taught through many hours of training. There are different application methods for concrete and tiles.
For Concrete
Neocrete’s authorized applicators are trained to execute Neocoat UTM microtopping. Briefly, the process involve the following steps;
- Surface preparation
- Primer application
- Application of Neocoat UTM (Base coat) in 2 coats or Neoflor 6010 in one coat
- Sanding and cleaning of the base coat surface
- Application of primer followed by Neocoat UTM (Top coat)
- Sanding and cleaning of the top coat surface
- Repeat steps 5 & 6
- Sanding and polishing the top coat surface with varying grits of paper
- Application of Neotuffcoat PU (sealer) mat or gloss (two coats)
For Tiles
Neocrete’s authorized applicators are trained to execute Neocoat UTM microtopping in its entirety. Briefly, the process involve the following steps;
- Surface preparation & cleaning
- Application of Neoflor WB primer
- Rolling out 80 gsm glass fibre cloth
- Application of Neoflor Primer-S
- Broadcast sand 500g per sq.m
- Application of 2 coats of Neocoat UTM (Base coat) or one coat of Neoflor 6010
- Sanding and cleaning of the base coat surface
- Application of primer followed by Neocoat UTM (Top coat)
- Sanding and cleaning of the top coat surface
- Repeat steps 5 & 6
- Sanding and polishing the top coat surface with varying grits of paper
- Application of Neotuffcoat PU (sealer) mat or gloss (two coats)
The maintenance of UTM in the first few days of application is essential to ensure the perfect finish, especially during the first month. In the first week, it is recommended to protect it as much as possible, taking care especially when moving pieces of furniture and avoid spilling liquids because the pores of the UTM have not yet closed.
