Neeraj Akhoury appointed as new CEO of Ambuja Cements

Neeraj Akhoury has been appointed as the new MD & CEO and will be taking over from Jha with effect from February 21, 2020.

Bimlendra Jha has resigned as the managing director & CEO of Ambuja Cements with effect from February 20, 2020 to pursue other interests.

The board of directors accepted the resignation of Jha, the company said in a BSE filing. Interestingly, Jha’s stint in the company lasted less than a year. He was appointed as the MD & CEO of the company on March 1, 2019 having taken over from Ajay Kapur. Kapur had been associated with the company for over 26 years.

Before joining Ambuja Cement, Jha had been associated for about 30 years with Tata Steel holding positions like CEO of Tata Steel UK, executive director on the board of Tata Steel Europe and executive chairman of long products Europe.

N.S. Sekhsaria, chairman of the board, Ambuja Cements said, “We wish to respect Bimlendra’s personal decision and thank him for his valuable contribution to the company and wish him all the best for the future. “

Neeraj Akhoury has been appointed as the new MD & CEO and will be taking over from Jha with effect from February 21, 2020.

Akhoury’s appointment is subject to the approval of the shareholders at the ensuing annual general meeting, the company added in the regulatory filing.
