Ludhiana civic body to roll out property ID cards from April 1

Interested residents can avail this card, which is similar to an ATM card, by paying a nominal charge of Rs 50. The basic purpose of this card is to give an ID to property holders of their records.

The Ludhiana municipal corporation (MC) is planning to roll out unique property identity (UPID) cards from April 1. Residents will be able to use this UPID card as a no objection certificate (NOC) which is required at the time of sale and purchase of properties.

MC officials have completed formalities and held demonstration with machines bought for the purpose.

Interested residents can avail this card, which is similar to an ATM card, by paying a nominal charge of Rs 50. The basic purpose of this card is to give an ID to property holders of their records.

Residents can apply both online and offline and it will issued if they have cleared all their dues like property tax, water supply, sewerage and disposal charges. They can either take out a printout or get a hard card made after paying Rs 50 at the suvidha centre. The MC general house had given its nod to the facility during a meeting held on February 10.

The MC officials claimed that the UPID cards would help catch defaulters of different taxes.

MC superintendent Vivek Verma said, “We are planning to start the facility from the next financial year (April 1). We have completed the formalities and carried out demonstrations.” He said there are plans to convert this card into a wallet for payment of MC-related services.

Meanwhile, the MC plans to carry out a fresh survey of total properties in the city. But it is still awaiting the nod from the senior authorities for the same. The officials had planned a fresh GIS-based survey of properties in the city to catch hold of defaulters who had never cleared their dues.

Officials claimed that under this survey, they had been planning to find answers to some 30 to 35 queries, including basic information about owners and details regarding covered area of the property.
