LIT seeks permission to develop residential colonies outside MC limits

Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) has sought permission from local bodies department to develop more residential colonies outside MC limits.

Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) has sought permission from local bodies department to develop more residential colonies outside MC limits.

According to LIT officials, private developers are floating illegal colonies and despite several attempts those developers are not getting the colonies regularised. Stating that it was always people who suffer, as illegal colonies do not even have basic amenities, LIT said it hopes to bridge this gap in the demand and supply.

LIT chairman Raman Balasubramanium, while confirming the move, said as of now LIT was allowed to develop colonies within MC limits. But hardly any space is left within the city so they want to move out. He said if they get approval from local government, they will move ahead with land pooling scheme adopted by Greater Ludhiana Area Development authority (Glada) where they invite public to pool land and then residential colonies are developed.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that a colony at Hambran Road in at least 100 acres is being planned.

According to Glada, outside MC limits there are more than 1,500 illegal colonies and people have invested in those colonies because there is no other option for them. Despite several regularisation policies for illegal colonies, very few developers come forward for regularisation. The Glada is also developing one such colony at Pakhowal road under land pooling scheme.

Requesting anonymity, one of the officials claimed that there are lesser chances that LIT will get permission for this proposal because already Glada is doing the same. According to the official, Glada projects are not getting overwhelming response: as government departments keep the reserve prices higher, people prefer comparatively cheaper private colonies.
