LDA gives deadline for demolition of 81 apartments

Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has issued notices to 81 apartments asking the owners to dismantle the unauthorised part of the buildings in 15 days, failing which it will be demolished by the authority.

According to the notices, a demolition order was initially passed on March 31, 2009, under the Uttar Pradesh Town Planning and Development Act, 1973, after due legal process, including hearings for the concerned parties. However, it could not be implemented for some reason.

Later, in 2012 a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Lt Col Ashok Kumar regarding unauthorized construction within LDA limits. In this case, the High Court recently issused order to go ahead with the decision to remove unauthorised structures in the city.Advocate Prince Lenin, who represented Kumar, stated, “In view of the stern directions form the High Court, it is expected that the directed authorities will take strict action against illegal constructions.”

LDA secretary Vivek Srivastava stated, “The authority has issued a final warning, allowing 15 days from the receipt of the notice for voluntary removal. If the structures are not dismantled within this period, the LDA will carry out the demolition, and the cost will be recovered as land revenue.”
