KEC International, BNC Power win key metro phase 2 contracts

KEC International Ltd. and BNC Power Projects Ltd. (BNCPPL) have emerged as the lowest bidders for the electrification contracts TR-02 and TR-03 of the Metro Phase 2 project, covering 43.8 km.

Package TR-02, won by KEC International with a bid of Rs. 207.36 crore, involves the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of 25kV flexible overhead equipment (OHE) and sectioning posts across at-grade and elevated sections. The estimated cost for this package is Rs 205 crore.

Package TR-03, secured by BNC Power Projects with a bid of Rs 381 crore after a discount, involves the installation and commissioning of a 33 kV cable network, Auxiliary SubStation (ASS), Receiving SubStation (RSS), and SCADA system. This package was initially estimated at Rs. 344 crore. BNC’s bid exceeded the estimate by 10.72%, likely sending the contract to the negotiation table.Technical bids for both packages were opened earlier this year, and other major bidders included Siemens-RVNL JV, Texmaco Rail and Engineering, and Kalpataru Projects International.

The Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project aims to expand the city’s metro network, enhancing connectivity and easing traffic congestion. It covers approximately 43.8 km, connecting key areas of the city with new lines. The project’s electrification works, including the installation of advanced systems like 25kV flexible OHE and 33 kV cables, are critical components that will ensure smooth and efficient operations once completed. This phase is expected to bring a major boost to the city’s public transportation infrastructure, offering a reliable, sustainable, and eco-friendly commuting alternative for Nagpur’s residents.

Both TR-02 and TR-03 contracts come with a 180-week (approximately 3.5 years) timeline for completion. The contracts are among several system-related packages under Phase 2, with other key packages such as E&M-02 and T-01 having already been awarded to Colossus Infra and Rahee Infratech, respectively. With these developments, Maha-Metro aims to accelerate the construction of Phase 2, which will play a pivotal role in enhancing the city’s public transport network and reducing reliance on traditional modes of transport.
