In the latest string of developments, the metro authority informed about the installation of ‘Steel Box Girder’ at Rawatpur. Previously, double T-girders were erected at all stations on the priority corridor that links IIT Kanpur to Motijheel and now, connecting slabs shall be laid at all spots.
The UPMRC informed through its social media account that the 45-metre long span weighing 120 tonnes is being used as a substitute for U-girder. As per sources, two of such slabs shall be erected near the Rawatpur tri-way crossing. While the first was erected on Saturday, the second shall be installed soon. Through this alternative, a wider space will be left between the two pillars allowing an easier movement of the vehicles.
The steel slabs shall be used at three locations in the IIT-Naubasta corridor. They have been sourced from Yamuna Nagar in Haryana and were received in 5 segments. Before installation, the segments were joined at Rawatpur itself. It is to be noted that normal U-girders are 27-metre long and weigh 147 tonnes.
As per reports, a turkish company has been given the responsibility of making the 3-year program report for the projects under the underground phase of Kanpur Metro. While the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the fastest commissioning of the priority corridor, schemes are also being prepared for the underground phase from Chunniganj to Nayaganj. Additionally, the metro section ahead of Brijendra Swaroop Park will also be underground. With these plans underway, Kanpur residents can expect that the metro project shall bring in a lot of benefits.
