Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) has appointed Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) as the general consultant for Metro Line 1C and Line 1D extension. This for the second time that DMRC will get the responsibility to make metro lines in the Pink City.
On Friday, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) got signed between JMRC CMD P Ramesh and DMRC’s director (business development) Pramit Kumar Garg.
“We have roped in DMRC as general consultant for the extension of Metro Line 1, instead of floating tenders and appointing turnkey contractors ourselves. This process will save a huge amount of time and would help the extension work to get over quickly,” JMRC CMD P Ramesh told .
Earlier, when the 9.1-km stretch of Metro Line 1A was constructed between Mansarovar and Badi Chaupar, the state government had appointed DMRC as the consulting agency. However, for the extension of another 2.4 km, the state government preferred to give tender to a Taiwan-based turnkey contractor.
On the report that a section of Metro and Urban Development and Housing Department officials is keen to hand over the project to DMRC rather than JMRC floating tender and appointing a turnkey contractor by itself.
“It took less than four years to build the 9.1-km line of the first phase, but over five years for the second phase extension,” said an official of the UDH department.
