IMC-Demolishen of illegal extensions of about 30 houses

As many as 30 occupants have already been issued notices by IMC to remove encroachment from the road as they have become a reason behind frequent traffic jam and congestion.

Several residential and commercial property on stretch between South Tukoganj and Hukumchand Ghantaghar Square are likely to be affected with Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) planning a removal drive in a week.

As many as 30 occupants have already been issued notices by IMC to remove encroachment from the road as they have become a reason behind frequent traffic jam and congestion.

IMC officials said that residents of the area have made additional construction encroaching upon the footpath and road.

“The actual width of the road was around 30ft but due to encroachments along this 800m stretch, it has gone down to 20ft. Presence of vehicles on roadside also add to the woes of commuters. There is no parking space and residents park their vehicles in front of their houses,” they said.

IMC’s zonal officer Nagenrda Singh Bhadoria said that notices have already been served to all occupants of the area. “The removal drive would be conducted in phases and additional construction from road would be cleared. Action on around 30 of the additional constructions would be taken up in first phase and remaining would be cleared in next phase,” he said.

Officials however could not confirm the date of action and said that they are in talks with police and district administration to launch the drive soon.

IMC officials are also considering this road as an alternate route for commuters of busy MG Road which sees increased traffic pressure during peak hours. “Removing encroachments from this road would provide an alternate route for commuters of MG Road,” they said.
