The BMC will soon ask its engineers for geographical information system (GIS) mapping of the works they supervise at every stage, in order to make them more accountable while also keeping a check on contractors.
Officials said GIS mapping will ensure an engineer visits a site each time a contractor generates a bill.
The mapped stretch will be stored in the civic system along with work progress reports updated by the supervising engineer, work design, tender documents and contractor details.
In the first stage, the BMC has selected five departments —roads, bridges, storm water drains, sewerage operation and hydraulic.
It has developed an app for the purpose. Additional municipal commissioner Vijay Singhal said, “Officials can check work progress from their offices.”
