The city corporation has appointed a technical expert to prepare detailed project report (DPR) to construct rainwater harvesting (RWH) structures at its buildings under the smart cities mission.
The civic body has obtained the in-principal approval to construct the structures at corporation offices, schools and hospitals as part of area-based development (ABD) component of the mission from the smart city board, corporation commissioner J Sravan Kumar said.
But during the board meeting in January, where the corporation presented a few models, the board raised objections related to the smart components of the project, said a corporation official. “The board directed the corporation to justify the reasons for proposing it under the mission,” he said.
“Recently, we appointed a technical expert as consultant to prepare DPR by collecting underground water level data in the city to understand how constructing the structures would increase water level,” said the commissioner. “The consultant will also recommend a suitable model with smart components, which could be adopted while constructing the structures.”
Last year, the corporation had directed public to construct RWH structures to collect rainwater that falls on rooftops on or before August 15 and had warned of severe actions on those, who fail to do it before the deadline.
Sravan said that 40% of the buildings in the corporation limit have working RWH structures. “Notices were issued to the owners of 30% buildings, directing them to repair the structures. We have already taken the assessment and are taking measures to ensure that all buildings are equipped,” he added.
