The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) will soon appoint a GIS (geographic information system) expert and climate resilience and environmental specialist for the Tamil Nadu Housing and Habitat Development Project (TNHHDP).
The project is aimed at strengthening the housing sector institutions in the state for increased and sustainable access to affordable housing.
As per the request for expression of interest and terms of reference issued for the purpose, around US$9 million has been approved by the World Bank as part of Component 2 of this project till the financial year 2023-24.
Component 2 also supports strengthening the GIS cell of the CMDA by devising a GIS roadmap for the preparation of a third master plan, integrating other information systems relevant to urban development into a single platform and also to update software, licences and hardware necessary to equip the GIS cell.
The CMDA would be appointing a GIS expert to be part of the project implementation unit, it added.
The project also envisages the planning authority for undertaking activities that would strengthen climate and disaster resilience. It includes a climate and disaster resilience study and geo-spatial mapping for the Master Plan 2046 preparation process as well as undertaking analytics on river drainage basin and flood plain mapping.
The climate resilience and environmental specialist will anchor a spatial climate resilience study for the Chennai Metropolitan Area.
