The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) will soon appoint a GIS (geographic information system) expert and climate resilience and environmental specialist for the Tamil Nadu Housing and Habitat Development Project (TNHHDP).

The project is aimed at strengthening the housing sector institutions in the state for increased and sustainable access to affordable housing.

As per the request for expression of interest and terms of reference issued for the purpose, around US$9 million has been approved by the World Bank as part of Component 2 of this project till the financial year 2023-24.

Component 2 also supports strengthening the GIS cell of the CMDA by devising a GIS roadmap for the preparation of a third master plan, integrating other information systems relevant to urban development into a single platform and also to update software, licences and hardware necessary to equip the GIS cell.

The CMDA would be appointing a GIS expert to be part of the project implementation unit, it added.
