Jetty is the interface between the land mode of transportation and waterways. The structural deterioration of jetty structure depends upon various parameters such as their exposure conditions, oceanographic conditions, salinity, ballast water contamination, wind velocity and its direction. Jetty structures are subjected to dead load, live load, earthquake load and additional marine loads like current load, wave load etc. The various degrees of deterioration and the deterioration patterns also change within the same structure. This happens because various parts of the structure have different exposure conditions. This can lead to insufficient longitudinal or transverse bearing capacity of the jetty which leads to cracks. In such scenarios appropriate retrofitting method and material is a prerequisite to regaining its structural strength. One such method is the reinforcement by Fiber Reinforced Polymers in the form of thin laminates or fabrics. It uses carbon fiber fabrics/ laminates on the surface of the concrete to form a composite that works in coordination with concrete to strengthen the component structure and improve its mechanical performance.
Structural Strengthening of Jetty with Relinforce™
Relinforce™ product lines are used to rehabilitate and strengthen the damaged or deficient concrete structures to take the designed loads with the use of carbon wrap technology. Relinforce™ system comprises high-strength carbon fabric fully saturated with an appropriate resin system to provide required additional strength to any damaged structure.
- Relinforce™ solutions including underwater curing Epoxy solution can be used for water submerged portions for jetties. It can be applied to existing composite materials for reinforcement and corrosion resistance.
- Relinforce™ comes with properties such as high tensile strength, high stiffness, high strength to weight ratio, high chemical resistance, temperature tolerance to excessive heat and low thermal expansion.
- It is applied in the form of a flexible fabric during installation, then saturated with a resin matrix, allowing it to harden to transform to a strong, unyielding material with a high strength-to-weight ratio.
Relinforce™ Materials used for Jetties:
- Relinforce™ Pile Grout. (Underwater Epoxy Grouting System)
- Relinforce™ C Fab. (Carbon Fabrics with varying GSM)
- Relinforce™ Bond Coat (Putty)
- Relinforce™ Fab S PR (Primer)
- Relinforce™ Fab S UW – (Moisture Insensitive Saturant)
Relinforce™ product lines can be used to rehabilitate and strengthen jetty structures with the use of carbon wrap technology.
