Cantonment Board, Landour on Wednesday initiated a demolition drive against illegal construction in the Landour Cantonment area.
A part of the Dahlia Bank property, which had earlier been demolished in 2018, along with a property owned by relative of a Cantonment Board member, were razed on Wednesday. Three more properties belonging to board members or their kin are also set to be demolished.
Speaking to mediapersons, CEO of Landour Cantonment, Abhishek Rathore, said a part of the Dahlia Bank building, majority of which had been demolished earlier, was again demolished on Wednesday. This included an underground water tank, a guard room and a godown. The property belongs to industrialist Sanjay Narang, who had fought a lengthy legal battle with the Cantonment, before the courts decreed that the building be demolished.
Cantonment authorities also demolished part of a building belonging to a relative of board member Badal Prakash.Badal Prakash said his relatives were “themselves about to demolish the illegal construction after receiving notice from the Cantonment.” “When Cantonment officials reached on Wednesday, they co-operated fully with them.”
Landour Cantonment has also issued notices to relatives of board members Sushil Kumar and Pushpa Padiyar, and to board member Ramesh, all of whom have been found to have encroached upon Cantonment land or engaged in illegal construction.
“We’ll take strict action against illegal construction within the Cantonment, and have issued several notices. The demolition will be carried out in the coming days,” Rathore said.
Notably, last week, authorities had evicted board vice-president Mahesh Chandra from a house belonging to the Cantonment.
