Bouygues wins two tunnel contracts worth $1.2bn in Hong Kong

Bouygues Construction, has been awarded two contracts worth €1.12bn ($1.23bn) by the Hong Kong government for two road tunnels in the Kowloon Peninsula.

Bouygues Travaux Publics, a subsidiary of civil engineering and engineering structures firm Bouygues Construction, has been awarded two contracts worth €1.12bn ($1.23bn) by the Hong Kong government for two road tunnels in the Kowloon Peninsula.

The two contracts for the Central Kowloon Route (CKR) and the Trunk Road T2 form part of a new trunk road, which is under construction, known as Route 6.

Upon completion, the Route 6 is expected to provide a rapid east-west link between West Kowloon and the town of Tseung Kwan O while relieving congestion on existing roads in the centre of Kowloon.

Under the first contract, worth €364m ($401.7m), Bouygues Travaux Publics will be responsible for the construction of a 2.8km section of a twin-tube tunnel linking Yau Ma Tei and Ma Tau Kok, two access tunnels and a ventilation shaft.

Bouygues said it has already commenced the works, with the project scheduled for commissioning in 2025.

As part of the second design-build-procurement contract, Bouygues Travaux Publics will construct a 3.4km underwater road tunnel linking the former Kai Tak airport to Cha Kwo Ling, two ventilation buildings, electrical and mechanical services, and additional road construction works.

Work under the contract, which is valued at €756m ($832.1m), is planned to commence before the end of the year. The project is scheduled for commissioning in 2026.

Earlier this year, Bouygues Travaux Publics secured a €167.1m ($183.9m) contract from concession company Bina Istra for widening a 28.1km stretch of the Istria Motorway to four lanes, on a peninsula in north-western Croatia.

Construction of the 209km of the motorway in Istria, Croatia, is taken up under the terms of a 32-year concession contract.

The Istrian Y Motorway project, taken up by the Croatian Ministry of Public Works, is part of a project for the development of tourism and enhanced European integration for the Republic of Croatia.
