Officials said the civic body collected about Rs 33 crore from property tax and mutation fees in the last financial year of 2022-23 ending on March 31. The authorities aim to collect Rs 40 crore from property tax in the present financial year.

Officials of the BMC’s assessment and valuation department said that tax bills will be sent along with all the outstanding dues and arrears. Tax payers of Salt Lake and adjoining areas falling under wards 29 to 41 can see their tax demand notices on the BMC website from May 8 and will also receive hard copies of the bill from the second week of this month, officials said.

For assessees from wards 1 to 26 which fall in Rajarhat Gopalpur area, tax payers would be able to pay online or by cash, cheque or draft at the tax collection offices between 11am to 3pm on any working day. Tax payers willing to pay tax at the collection centres are requested to bring the copy of the previous year’s property tax bill issued by BMC for online generation of the tax demand notice, officials said.

Civic officials said there are huge tax dues left to be collected. To meet the pending tax dues a 10% penalty on the outstanding dues will be levied on tax payers which they will have to pay from the third quarter which will start from October. BMC has been holding regular camps across wards, including large housing complexes, to collect property tax, where they are offering a provision of payment in instalments.
