Bengaluru development body to recover arrears to raise funds

Since no sale of corner sites took place and many tenants at its shopping complexes are not in a position to pay the rent due to the lockdown, it has become inevitable for the BDA to leave no stone unturned to generate revenues for paying salaries to their employees.

With no revenue coming in during the lockdown, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has decided to focus on the recovery of arrears worth crores of rupees pending from allotted civic amenities (CA) sites. The BDA has been depending on the revenue from the sale of corner sites at its layouts and rent from the shops at its shopping complexes.

Since no sale of corner sites took place and many tenants at its shopping complexes are not in a position to pay the rent due to the lockdown, it has become inevitable for the BDA to leave no stone unturned to generate revenues for paying salaries to their employees.

The BDA Commissioner has issued a public notice stating that all the lessees of CA sites have to clear the arrears within 15 days. The BDA has allotted 1400 CA sites for educational institutions, religious and social organizations on lease basis.

“It is the negligence of the BDA officials. They should have collected the arrears while renewing the lease to the lessees. I want the BDA Commissioner to take measures to collect the arrears worth crores of rupees from the lessees and also take disciplinary action against those BDA officials responsible for not collecting the arrears from the lessees,’’ said Sai Datta, a social activist.

“We will lock the buildings constructed on CA sites by the lessees if they fail to clear the arrears within 15 days. The lessees have to clear the amount without fail,’’ said BDA Commissioner Dr G C Prakash.
