BDA intensified its drive against encroachments, seizing properties worth around Rs 460 crore in two locations at Nagarabhavi, west Bengaluru. On Sept 29, it reclaimed land in survey nos. 78 and 129, which had been illegally occupied and used for commercial activities.
The encroachers had constructed commercial shops, garages and other businesses, and collected rent. BDA officials discovered the encroachment, leading to a legal battle that went in the authority’s favour.
“Following the court order, BDA launched an operation in survey no. 78, demolishing warehouses and sheds using JCB machines. The authority reclaimed six acres of land, valued at around Rs 430 crore,” said a senior BDA member.AdvtIn a separate operation, BDA reclaimed property worth Rs 30 crore in survey no. 129, where land had been notified for acquisition in 1985 for development of Nagarabhavi 1st Stage. Encroachers had built unauthorized sheds, garages, and a nursery garden on BDA land, occupying corner and intermediate plots.
During the demolition drive, over 40 unauthorized shops were razed in a matter of minutes. Shop owners were devastated, but BDA said prior notices had been issued to them.
BBMP cleared illegal structures from Kaggadasapura lake area in east Bengaluru. The drive follows a survey by the revenue department, which identified approximately 2.5 guntas of land in the lake area occupied by sheds and open spaces. The cleared land, valued at an estimated Rs 2 crore, has been secured, and the process of fencing the area has begun to prevent further encroachment.
