Ahmedabad metro phase I to be complete by August 2022

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited said that this year the citizens of Ahmedabad will have only 6.5km of metro line functional, from Vastral to Apparel Park. GMRC officials said 40km will be complete by August next year.

The Phase I of the Ahmedabad metro project, the lines from APMC to Motera Stadium and Thaltej to Vastral, will be completed by August 2022, in time for the celebration of the 75th year of Independence.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited said that this year the citizens of Ahmedabad will have only 6.5km of metro line functional, from Vastral to Apparel Park. GMRC officials said 40km will be complete by August next year.

Officials said that they do not plan to operate any more stretches this year.

The official said tunnelling work for the underground section between Apparel Park and Shahpur has been completed and laying of tracks and the signalling system is under way. Officials said construction of 27km of elevated corridor is at an advanced stage.

Officials said the GMRC has in the second phase decided to drop direct connectivity to the airport that was planned earlier.

Officials said the 28km Phase II, work on which kicked off on Monday, connecting the state capital and Ahmedabad city, will be completed by 2024.

Officials said that the length of Corridor 1 of Phase II is 22.8km from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir. Corridor 1of Phase II is a completely elevated corridor with 20 elevated Metro stations with interchanges at Koteshwar Road. It will have future provisions to connect the Metro with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

The corridor will connect Koba, Infocity, the New and Old Sachivalayas, Akshardham and Mahatma Mandir.

Officials said that the length of Corridor 2 is 5.4km, from GNLU to GIFT City, with 2 elevated stations, with an interchange facility at GNLU and a bridge over the Sabarmati river.

Officials said that along this stretch no land will have to be acquired as the project has been designed in a way that is passes over government land.
