About 50,000 commercial units yet to pay property tax

According to IMC officials, there are around 1 lakh commercial establishments in city and of them, only about 50 per cent have their property tax accounts with civic body.

Around 50,000 commercial establishments of city are yet to open their property tax accounts with Indore Municipal Corporation, which is a loss of around 50 per cent of revenue to civic body under the head.

According to IMC officials, there are around 1 lakh commercial establishments in city and of them, only about 50 per cent have their property tax accounts with civic body.

During a meeting to review revenue collection, IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh on Saturday asked officials to approach the defaulting commercial establishments and ask them to clear dues by opening property tax accounts with civic body.

During the meet, commissioner set a target of recovering Rs3-4 crore of revenue in last month of this financial year. He asked all zone officials and assistant revenue officials to pay attention to commercial establishments and recover at least 20 per cent of property tax from them on commercial rate.

“Commercial establishments, which failed to clear due property tax, should face actions including sealing while a survey should be carried out examine how many ground +3 buildings are there in every zone and it should be checked that if they have cleared property tax,” commissioner issued instructions. He asked bill collectors to work at least 14-16 hours in a day as strict actions will be taken on finding negligence in working.

Singh also asked PHE department to constitute a team that would cut connection of Narmada water if account-holders fail to clear water tax or illegally taking connection.

Releasing an order, commissioner shifted 68 employees in revenue recovery works, who were earlier deployed at mayor secretariat and at offices of IMC chairman, IMC leader-of-opposition and other public representatives as tenure of MIC has got over.
