Policy to settle issue of maintenance at LDA flats

The LDA on Saturday, after a meeting with the RWAs, formed a committee that would draft a policy to find a solution.

Cases of disputes arising between new occupants and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) over payment of maintenance charges in apartments constructed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) are expected to be resolved soon.

The LDA on Saturday, after a meeting with the RWAs, formed a committee that would draft a policy to find a solution.

“The committee will be chaired by LDA secretary Pawan Gangwar and deputy secretary will also participate. The committee is tasked with solving the problems by May 15,” LDA finance controller Deepak Singh said.

As per rules, the LDA maintains apartments for three years after the first flat is sold, and thereafter, maintenance lies with the RWAs. Many LDA apartments where RWAs are present have vacant flats. Now, when the LDA does a registry of a vacant flat, the RWA denies giving possession to new occupants until the maintenance fee is paid. RWA cites a previous order issued by the former LDA vice chairman PN Singh that says maintenance should be given to RWA.

AdvtOn this, new occupants often approach LDA as the authority collects maintenance fee from the allottees even before the registry.

The committee will submit a final decision after the urban local body election results as the LDA secretary is deployed on election duty.
