On Thursday, SAIL has confirmed that they have received approval from the Indian Register for Shipping (IRS) to manufacture a special shipbuilding grade plates.
In a statement released by the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), it said that the India Navy will make Diving Support Vessels (DSV) using these plates.
The Bhilai Steel Plant of SAIL has got the necessary works approval certificate from the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) to manufacture the special shipbuilding grade plates for making the Diving Support Vessel (DSV) used by the India Navy. These plates will be supplied to the Hindustan Shipyard Limited for making the vessels. Such vessels are mainly used by the Navy for search, rescue, and repair of the undersea submarines and other vessels or structures.
To obtain this certification rigorous monitoring and review of the entire systems from steelmaking to testing is required.
Sail also said that the work approval received by Bhilai Steel Plant is for the manufacture and supply of the IRS grade plates of normal strength (A, B & D) with plate thickness ranging from 8 mm to 45 mm. The country’s largest steel producer with an annual capacity of over 21 million tonnes per annum is SAIL.
