NMC aims to make C&D recycling plant operational in six months

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has finally identified a plot of land adjacent to the existing civic compost plant in Pathardi, on the outskirts of the city, for this purpose.

A deadline of six months has been set by the civic body to make its proposed construction and demolition (C&D) waste recycling plant operational.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has finally identified a plot of land adjacent to the existing civic compost plant in Pathardi, on the outskirts of the city, for this purpose.

During a recent meeting with representatives from various industries, NMC commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar said that the contractor for the same has been finalized and the work order will be issued shortly, so that the actual work can begin right away.

Earlier, NMC had decided to set up the C&D waste recycling plant on land reserved in Makhmalabad, butresidents there had strongly opposed the plan.

Civic officials said around seven to eight acres of land had been reserved for slaughterhouses adjacent to the existing compost plant of the civic body in Pathardi. The reservation of the land was changed and it was decided to set up the recycling plant there instead. With construction activities going in full steam across the city, the state government had asked the NMC to establish a plant for construction debris to be recycled and used for other purposes.

Recycling of construction debris in the city is one of the parameters under the Swachh Survekshan, and one of the reasons NMC’s ranking in the survey has dropped over the last two-three years.

Now, however, the civic body aims to get this plant operational within next six months, so that it can help improve the next Swachh Survekshan ranking for Nashik.
