Madhya Pradesh okays new greenfield airport  in Dewas

After its survey AAI found a location near Chapada-Hatpipliya tehsil of Dewas district as most suitable for meeting its technical criteria including topography, wind direction, connectivity, water bodies etc.

Madhya Pradesh Government on Friday gave in-principle approval to develop a new greenfield airport of Indore by acquiring around 11,000 acres of land in Dewas district.

“Initially, we had marked nine locations including in Dewas, Dhar and Ujjain but after examination, we shortlisted three places to propose developing an international airport with help of Airport Authority of India (AAI)” MP Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC’s) MD Rohan Saxena said, adding that after its survey, AAI found a location near Chapada-Hatpipliya tehsil of Dewas district as most suitable for meeting its technical criteria including topography, wind direction, connectivity, water bodies etc.

“MPIDC prepared a detailed report of mode of finance and the model of the proposed airport near Chapada-Hatpipliya tehsil as recommended by on AAI’s recommendation” he said, adding that the chief secretary Iqbal Singh Bains today held a discussion over the report while Indore and Dewas collector along with Saxena joined it through video call.

According to the MD, the state government, after the CS examined the report and discussed all the important points of it, on Friday gave in-principal approval for the project that will be named as the new greenfield airport of Indore.

“Now, AAI’s team will again visit the spot for exact alignment of the proposed facility. The airport will be developed in around 5,500 acres of land while as much land will be developed by MPIDC for investment and commercial purpose” Saxena said, adding that MPIDC is exploring both the ways – land acquisition or land pooling to acquire the land required for the entire project.

According to the sources, the farmers are likely to choose to go with land pooling act as it will offer them higher price than the collector’s guideline of rate of the property along with developed plots near the proposed airport.

“As a mode of finance, we are exploring three options including that acquiring the lands and bearing cost of the project only by the central and state government, or by a private players or as a hybrid model of including all three of them” he said, adding that MPIDC has identified around 25,000 acres of land that can be developed in different parcels for industrial and logistic park and clusters.
