The state government on Tuesday allotted a little more than 86 hectare of government land for the implementation of the scheme at a minimum price of Re 1 per sqmt.
As per the communication issued by state government’s joint secretary Ravikant Falle, the land — located in Gat Number 227/1 of Teesgaon — has been allotted to the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development (MHADA) for implementation of the scheme. The communication also cites the recent letter by Aurangabad municipal administrator Astik Kumar Pandey seeking land for the implementation of the scheme.
As per the data submitted to the central government, out of 80,518 PMAY applicants in the district, only 355 have been allotted homes in the past five years.
Last month, on the basis of a complaint lodged by Jaleel, the Union government summoned the state government officials for failing to implement PMAY in the district.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a flagship mission of the Union government being implemented by the ministry of housing and urban affairs.
Jaleel, who is also a member of the Union’s urban development committee (UDC), said, “We thank the state government for allotting the land. Now we want the implementing authorities to expedite the work, so that the homeless get their dream home at the earliest.”
Apart from raising the issue on different platforms, Jaleel even got dozens of banners — criticising the administration — put up at different locations in the district. The land allotted earlier for the scheme had been transferred for the upcoming safari park.
The state government has clearly specified that the land is being allotted for the specific purpose and also that the land should be utilised within three years of the allotment.
