NMC collects Rs 10 crore property tax dues under amnesty scheme

According to the scheme, the defaulters who pay their dues in one time were to be given a waiver in penalty, warrant and notice fees.

Over 2,200 people have come forward and cleared their property tax dues ever since the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) introduced amnesty scheme.

According to the scheme, the defaulters who pay their dues in one time were to be given a waiver in penalty, warrant and notice fees. The civic body has collected property tax dues of around Rs 10 crore from the defaulters.

The NMC has so far waived off around Rs 1.78 crore under this scheme. The amnesty scheme was introduced on December 16 last year and will be in effect till February 10, 2020.

The NMC recovers a 2% fine per month on tax dues from the last day of paying taxes. Moreover, it also recovers expenses of notices and warrants issued to the defaulters. Hence, the civic body had introduced the amnesty scheme.

The defaulters who paid their property tax dues between September 16 and September 30 were given 75% concession on penalty, warrants and notice fess. Those who paid their tax dues between October 1 and 10 were given 50% concession, while those who paid taxes between October 11 and 15 were given 25% concession in penalty and other fees.

“We received good response to the amnesty scheme introduced between September 15 and October 15 in 2019 wherein we collected property tax dues worth Rs 30 crore. This time around we aim to collect around Rs 50 crore,” a civic official said.
