Easy access of metro stations to private properties-MMRDA

The policy for providing direct connections to metro stations by private developers in the vicinity of metro stations was formally released on Monday.

Private developers whose properties are close to metro routes can opt for direct connectivity to the closest metro station to enable easy access for those residing/working on these properties.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority which had first offered this facility to the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Bandra Kurla Complex for Metro Line II B and to the Inorbit and Infinity Malls along Metro Line II A has now opened it for all. MMRDA is executing 14 metro lines across Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The policy for providing direct connections to metro stations by private developers in the vicinity of metro stations was formally released on Monday. As per the policy, private developers can approach MMRDA with a detailed proposal which will vet it for viability and technical suitability.

The construction cost of connectivity from the station to the boundary of the private property will be borne by the Metro-PIU. However, any construction inside the private property the cost is to be borne by the developer. Several housing societies, offices, malls in Singapore, Hong Kong have this facility which ensures people can walk directly to the metro station and do not have to rely on any other transport.

The policy further states that MMRDA will have the right to provide staircase, entry/exit etc and the use of the structure will not be limited only to people commuting to and from the private property. Further MMRDA can exploit the commercial potential of these connectivities and retain the revenue, states the policy.
