The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has introduced a special initiative called “Abhay Yojana,” which will waive penalty charges on outstanding property tax and water tax for a limited duration.
This decision was made in response to requests from MLA Kumar Ailani, who urged the civic administration to establish a relief program for citizens struggling to settle their tax obligations.
In a positive response to this appeal, Municipal Commissioner Manisha Awhale sanctioned the scheme’s implementation for four days, from March 13 to March 16, 2026. Under this initiative, residents who pay their overdue property tax and water tax in full during this timeframe will benefit from a waiver on penalty charges. Officials indicated that this initiative is anticipated to motivate more residents to settle their outstanding dues while taking advantage of the penalty relief.
The civic administration stated that if residents pay their total outstanding property tax along with the current demand for the financial year 2025–26, they will be granted a 100% waiver on the delayed penalty amount. Previously, MLA Kumar Ailani had communicated with the municipal administration and discussed the issue with Commissioner Manisha Awhale via phone, advocating for the implementation of the scheme to assist taxpayers.
Additionally, several leaders from various political parties had approached the mayor, requesting a similar relief initiative. Ailani expressed gratitude to Commissioner Manisha Awhale for making a decision that serves the interests of the citizens and for executing the Abhay Yojana.
In the meantime, Mayor Ashwini Nikam urged residents to take advantage of the scheme within the designated period. She emphasized that taxpayers with outstanding dues should settle them during the scheme’s duration to benefit from the relief. The mayor also cautioned that if taxpayers do not clear their dues within the specified timeframe, they will be held accountable for any stringent administrative actions taken by the municipal corporation in the future.
The civic administration has urged citizens to co-operate by clearing their pending taxes and help strengthen the municipal body’s financial resources for carrying out development and civic works in the city.
