Andhra Pradesh to launch online portal for land registration

The government has found out that middlemen play a vital role in registration of land.

In a bid to eliminate the role of middlemen, the registration and stamps department is set to introduce an online portal from November 2 that will allow people to draft their own documents.

The government has found out that middlemen play a vital role in registration of land. They have their sway because of the difficulty in drafting documents and deeds. Middlemen do it in the stead of the people who want to get their land registered.

Keeping this in view and to make the process more transparent, the government has decided to migrate all paperwork online. The project will be launched on a pilot basis on November 2 in Krishna and Visakhapatnam districts. Sale and gift deeds can be drafted and verified online in the new portal.

“We received several complaints about interference of middlemen in land registrations. The government has decided to put an end to this. The new portal, which comes equipped with a special software, will allow people to draft their own documents, which they can register in the sub-registrar office near them,” said V Ravi Kumar, joint inspector general of registration and stamps department.

“We will first identify the glitches in the system after it is implemented on a pilot basis in Krishna and Visakhapatnam districts. After fixing them, the system will be opened for the rest of the state,” Ravi Kumar said, adding that in the next few months, awareness camps will be organised so that people can carry out the online drafting through the new web portal.City-based builders have welcomed the move.

“We need to seek help of a document writer to execute sale and purchase of properties. There were cases when registration agents and document writers charged commission in the form of a percentage of the land value. We welcome the online system as it will help us draft our documents by paying a nominal fee online and get them registered in a nearby registrar office ,” told M Bhakser, a city-based builder
