JDA set to expand by 1,000 sq km, with 272 more villages

Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is likely to expand its jurisdiction by an additional 1,000 sq km in the coming years, incorporating 272 villages from Jaipur Rural and Dudu districts, along with two new municipalities in Jaipur Rural. This proposal, part of the Master Plan 2047, is expected to be approved at a JDA meeting scheduled for Nov.

“A meeting chaired by JDA commissioner Anandhi will be held in early Nov to finalise the proposed area extensions under the JDA’s jurisdiction in the Master Plan 2047,” a JDA official said.

The current JDA Master Plan, adopted in 2000 for a 25-year period, covers an area of 5,000 sq km. The new plan proposes extending this to 6,000 sq km, encompassing 272 villages, which inllcudes 229 from Jaipur Rural’s 10 tehsils, 40 from Dudu district’s three tehsils, and others within Jaipur district.”This extension means JDA’s jurisdiction will extend beyond Jaipur Rural, giving the body control over parts of the newly created Dudu district, including 40 villages from Dudu and Phagi tehsils,” another official added.

For the first time, JDA’s reach will go beyond the urban zones managed by Jaipur’s two municipal corporations—Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater and Heritage—to cover areas under the municipalities of Shahpura, Chaksu, and Jobner in Jaipur Rural.

“Once these areas fall under JDA, we can initiate systematic, phased development in these villages and colonies for the next 25 years,” a JDA official said.
