Apart from regular allocations for various flagship schemes, BRS government will mostly focus on ensuring funds for 2BHK housing scheme with 3 lakh grant for each poor family owning a piece of land.
According to sources, the government is mulling to allocate 30,000 crore on this scheme after the recent brainstorming on budget.
During the Samagra Kutumba Survey, it was discovered that 27 lakh poor households in the state do not own a home. And this time it would have been 37 lakhs.
The survey, which was conducted during the initial days of the state formation, found out that of the 91 lakh households, 45 lakh households live in single bedroom houses. Another 24 lakh households live in rented homes and three lakh households live in slums and government land parcels.
Sources said there was a lot of deliberation as the state government wants to make this one of the main campaign themes during the assembly elections this time.
BRS leaders will also highlight how the past governments have allotted for building houses for the poor and how their government has fared.
The date of receiving the applications for 3 lakh grant will be announced during the budget speech, sources said. However, there is no clarity yet on how many houses will be allocated to each assembly segment.
BJP has been accusing the BRS government of not taking the double bedroom scheme forward despite the Centre willing to grant funds. BJP leaders pointed out how some of BJP-governed states like Uttar Pradesh have utilised the funding from the Centre and were able to provide double bedroom houses for the poor.
