Lucknow is all set to be linked with Kanpur via an expressway, soon.The Government of India has given its final seal of approval to the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway by shelling out ₹1,935 crores in the Union Budget 2022. Boosting connectivity between the two cities, the dream project has moved one step closer to reality with the allocation of funds in the annual budget of 2022, informed Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport & Highways in a tweet.
Starting from Shaheed Path in Lucknow, the upcoming expressway will map through the Unnao district and will be linked to the proposed ring road in Kanpur. Notably, the foundation stone of the Lucknow-Kanpur expressway was laid down by Gadkari along with the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on January 5.
The blueprints of this 63-kilometre long expressway have been sketched to connect it to the Unnao-Lalganj-Raebareli highway. With an estimated budget of ₹4,200 crores, the upcoming Lucknow-Kanpur expressway will have around 13-kilometre long sections of elevated roads as well.
Interestingly, for the first time ever, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will employ 3D Automated Machine Guidance technology to build the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway. Passing through Unnao, this six-lane expressway project is expected to be functional by December 2023.
As per officials, apart from connecting the two cities geographically, this expressway will also act as an economic corridor by working as the backbone of Lucknow and Kanpur nodes of the UP defence corridor.
Upon completion, this expressway will reduce the current travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur to 45 minutes only. A boon for the people of Lucknow and Kanpur, this expressway will lead to an easier and smoother journey between the two cities.
