Telangana Govt likely to reject over 3 lakh LRS applications

Of the 25 lakh applications, majority of the rejected ones were in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and surrounding municipal corporations, according to official sources.

Nearly three lakh applications of Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) are likely to be rejected and will not be considered for regularisation as these open plots in unauthorised layouts are either located on lake beds, public open spaces like parks, waqf land, endowment or government land.

Of the 25 lakh applications, majority of the rejected ones were in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and surrounding municipal corporations, according to official sources.

A day after CM Revanth Reddy announced clearance of pending LRS applications, the municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) department has decided to issue guidelines on approval of LRS applications.

“In gram panchayats and urban development authorities, the respective additional collectors (local bodies) will give approvals and issue proceedings. In municipalities, respective municipal commissioners, GHMC commissioner will release proceedings in Greater Hyderabad and HMDA in its jurisdiction,” a senior MA&UD official told TOI. On the Supreme Court (SC) case on LRS, the officials said though there was a case against LRS, there was no interim order or stay on the issue, not to process or clear the pending applications. Some states such as APhave been doing LRS approvals, an official said.

The previous BRS govt had announced the LRS scheme in August 2020 and asked the applicants to pay 1,000 application fee. The govt had received 1.06 lakh applications in GHMC limits, the second biggest corporation Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) got 1.01 lakh applications and Khammam corporation 50,000 applications.
