The government of Telangana has initiated a road development plan worth Rs 12,000 crore to improve connectivity throughout the state. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy have announced that tenders for the initial phase will be issued shortly.
The Roads and Buildings (R&B) department is set to construct 5,190 km of roads at a cost of Rs 6,478 crore, while the Panchayat and Rural Development department will focus on developing 7,947 km of rural roads for Rs 6,000 crore.
These projects will be executed under the hybrid annuity model (HAM). This model guarantees government funding of 40 percent distributed in 10 instalments, with contractors responsible for the remaining investment, which will be reimbursed based on performance and adjusted for inflation.
The objective of this initiative is to connect villages to mandals, mandals to districts, and districts to Hyderabad through modern, all-weather roads, which will include four-lane district roads, two-lane mandal links, and improved rural routes. By December, an additional 6,810 km of roads will be put out for tender.
The government highlights the advantages of the HAMāreduced investor risk, consistent returns, guaranteed maintenance for 15 years, and the promise of safer, pothole-free roadsāthereby fostering economic growth and job creation.
