Saint-Gobain has initiated the construction of its seventh float glass line and fifth mineral wool insulation line at the Oragadam facility located near Chennai, marking a substantial expansion of its presence in India.

The new float glass unit, which will have a production capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day, is set to meet the increasing demand for high value-added glass within the construction industry. This facility will feature cutting-edge digital technologies and energy-efficient systems, aiming to reduce its environmental footprint. Simultaneously, the company is developing its largest mineral wool insulation facility in the Asia-Pacific region, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tonnes.

This plant is designed to achieve near net-zero carbon emissions and will serve the growing building construction market in India, integrating the latest advancements in digital and engineering technologies. Sreedhar N, Senior Vice-President and CEO for Asia Pacific and India, stated that these initiatives will bolster Saint-Gobain’s capacity to provide high-performance, sustainable solutions that are customized to meet market demands.

The investments underscore the company’s strategic emphasis on Industry 4.0 technologies, sustainable manufacturing practices, and unique product offerings to satisfy the increasing domestic and regional requirements.
