PMRDA records 7,631 unauthorized structures

While FIR has been registered against 94 structures, 263 structures have been demolished to date. These structures are in Maval, Mulshi, Haveli and Khed talukas of the PMRDA region.

Altogether 7,631 structures were found to be illegal in the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) region after a review on Wednesday.

PMRDA commissioner Rahul Mahiwal said after the review meeting that 7,631 structures were found to be illegal over a period of last eight years in the region.

While FIR has been registered against 94 structures, 263 structures have been demolished to date. These structures are in Maval, Mulshi, Haveli and Khed talukas of the PMRDA region.

“We have categorised the structures based on what can be regularised, what cannot be and those against which we have registered FIRs,” said Mahiwal. PMRDA officials said, adding that that many proposals have been received for regularisation of these structures.

Monica Singh, head, illegal construction demolition department, told TOI that the structures have been identified after a detailed survey. However, the work was put on hold during the pandemic period from 2019 onwards. From 2015-18, 1,213 structures were identified, while 2804 were identified in 2019, 1,687 in 2020 and 1,342 in 2021. The department identified 585 structures this year. “Of the total 263 structures demolished, 54 were pulled down this year,” said Singh

Of the 94 FIRs registered, 59 were in 2020, 17 in 2021 and 18 were filed this year, data show. PMRDA officials stated that as per the state’s norms, the structures constructed after December 2015 could be regularised by paying necessary penalty and such constructions would be declared “compounded structures” after payment of compounding charges, infrastructure charges and premium by both the owners and the occupiers.

An official said due process has been followed by issuing notices under section 53 (1) of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act. The official added that the structures are razed if the owners do not respond to the notices.
