The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to give 5% rebate to prompt property tax payers if they clear their annual tax dues in April. Also, those paying the taxes online will get additional 1% rebate.
The total rebate for tax payers paying their bills in April will be 6% if they make the entire payment in one go. The prompt property tax payers will get 3% rebate if they pay their tax in the month of May and 2% if the payment is done in June.
Last year as well the civic administration had introduced similar scheme for property tax payers and had received good response from the citizens. An NMC official said the tax payers can get their annual property tax bills online on the official web portal of the civic body by using their property index number.
“The NMC is right now unable to distribute property tax bills physically due to manpower issues. Hence, we have appealed to the tax payers to get their property tax bills online and pay their property tax,” the official said.
“The property tax department is also in the process of preparing a database of the contact numbers of the property tax payers. So far, we have managed to collect contact numbers of over 1.5 lakh tax payers. We will use the mobile number to inform people about their property tax amount,” the official added.
During the last financial year (2021-22), the NMC collected Rs 149 crore towards property tax – highest collection ever – as against Rs 112 crore during previous fiscal. The previous highest property tax collection was recorded at Rs 141 crore during the financial year 2019-20.
