The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) are collaborating on multiple road projects aimed at enhancing connectivity to the forthcoming Bhogapuram International Airport. These roadways are anticipated to reduce traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours.
NHAI has commenced the construction of a significant interchange at Savaravalli, with the objective of completing the road by May or June. In conjunction with this development, VMRDA has pinpointed 15 major roads in its Master Plan, seven of which are crucial for improving access to the airport.
The total expenditure for these roads is estimated at Rs 175 crore, and they are also projected to be finished by May. Furthermore, important segments such as Gambheeram and Divis Road are under development to facilitate smoother travel.
The state government has instructed NHAI to devise a plan for a six-lane coastal highway that will link Visakhapatnam to the airport, thereby enhancing regional connectivity. Additionally, a Metro-cum-double-decker flyover is under consideration to alleviate urban traffic.
