More property tax defaulters in Ludhiana to get notices

The officials claimed that serving notices is helping them in the recovery process. In the past few days, they have received Rs 1 crore in pending dues from the defaulters.

Carrying forward the momentum of recovery of property tax, the civic officials have started serving notices to defaulters for financial year 2021-22 who owe more than Rs 5,000 in dues.

The officials claimed that serving notices is helping them in the recovery process. In the past few days, they have received Rs 1 crore in pending dues from the defaulters. As many as 542 defaulters have been issued notices only in areas falling under zone D.

MC superintendent Vivek Verma said, “We do not want to spare even a single defaulter. The notices are being served and people will get time to clear their dues.” He said they will identify more such defaulters. The officials claimed that they could collect only Rs 92 crore from property tax against a target of Rs 110 crore for previous financial year. At least 1 lakh tax payers did not clear their dues.

Meanwhile to generate more income, mayor Balkar Sandhu called Verka milk plant officials and asked them to revise the rent for Verka booths installed in public parks of MC. As many as 11 verka booths are installed in the parks. From one booth, only Rs 1,500 rent is being charged at the moment. The Verka officials claimed that they had set up the infrastructure for the booths and MC has done nothing in that.
