The masterplan for Hosur new town development is ready and the government has issued an order inviting objections and suggestions from the public. Officials from the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) said they would upload the masterplan on its website next week.
“Many of the reclassification requests we get are from regions including Coimbatore and Hosur. The masterplan will facilitate organised development. Once we get feedback from residents, we will send the final plan for the government’s approval,” said Hitesh Kumar S Makwana, secretary, housing and urban development.
According to officials, the government issued orders in 1984 for a new town development plan that was to cover 57 villages. Now the consent has been given for the plan which includes around 130 villages covering 734sqkm.
“This has been pending for almost 35 years. It is essential at a time when Hosur is witnessing rapid industrial growth. As of now there are more than 1,500 industrial units in Hosur,” said P R Jaiprakash, CREDAI secretary, Hosur.
After a prolonged lull, the government in the 2021-2022 Budget announced an urban development authority for Hosur and DTCP prepared the masterplan.
C N Viswanathan, DTCP committee chairman for regions 4 to 6, said that the planning should be done with care, especially while demarcating water bodies and pieces of government land.
“Many industries are setting base in Hosur. We need all amenities to suit this growth. We have submitted a petition to the housing secretary,” he said.
