Kobelco Construction Equipment India (KCEI), a subsidiary of Japan-based Kobelco Construction Machinery which makes excavators, is targeting around Rs 1,800 crore revenue from its operations in the current 2024-25 financial year, primarily driven by export business.
The company has a manufacturing plant near Chennai in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh with an annual production capacity of 3,000 units. It currently makes 2,000 units per year of which around 300 are exported. According to Takemichi Hirakawa, KCEI managing director and chief executive, the company estimates to make more than 2,600 units next year and plans to double the exports. On Friday, it celebrated the rolling of its 20,000th excavator from the facility.Hirakawa said, ‘The 20,000th excavator production milestone reflects the commitment to delivering high-quality construction equipment.
India has emerged as an important manufacturing base for Kobelco, meeting both domestic demand and expanding our global footprint. As part of our long-term growth strategy, we remain aligned with the ‘Make in India’ initiative and continue to invest in research and development, strengthening our capabilities.’
It is also setting up a new R&D facility in Sri City to focus on advanced engineering solutions, customisation for varied market requirements, the company said in a statement. The company supplies excavators to domestic customers, exports to more than 16 countries and claims it has 25 per cent market share.
